The end of chapter 7 is in sight, at least from a content development standpoint. As we announced back last month, we’re revamping the VN from the ground up. This was due to our being forced to rethink how the story would play out with the planned endings in mind. As we’re having to make major changes that would force players to replay the story from the start anyway, we are spending a lot of time working (again) on the fit and finish in preparation for eventual publishing to Steam and/or GOG.

As usual, Snax delayed working on animations until near the end of the development cycle to give priority to getting standard images pushed through our render server. That’s why the “art” bar in the graphic below lags so far behind the coding…

Even after content development for chapter 7 is done, there will still be considerable time spent going back over the entire project. We’ve already rerendered many images for quality and consistency. Luckily, a lot of the remaining work can parallel game testing. The source code will be scrutinized to ensure that all paths and player choices make sense and allow for desired outcomes on a more inclusive basis. Much of this work can be delayed to future chapters where changes wouldn’t affect player save games and endgame logic. Fingers crossed, you’ll never have to restart the game again.
