Change notes:
- Around an hour of new content
- 10+ new scenes and 10 new animations
- 857 new renders (between animations and static images)
- Enhancements to dialogue to include text effects and colorized to denote speech, thoughts, and cues. Some of these effects can be taxing to less powerful systems. There’s a flag in Preferences that you can use to turn them off if you experience unacceptable stuttering in the text display.
- Major rewrite of underlying code
- New music jukebox featuring all of the music in the AVN. When entering the jukebox from either the main menu or from within the VN, the currently playing song will be hilighted.
Developer notes:
- Chapter 5 of a 10 chapter story.
- If you haven’t tried it yet, please consider playing using auto-advance. The cinematic nature of the storytelling lends itself well to this type of interaction. There are pauses in the dialog that were supposed to be mitigated by Ren’Py 8.1 which hasn’t been released yet, so the dialogue pace is off a bit but will be fixed in future releases. And you can always click or press space/return to advance if the pauses are too long.

I would like Alex to forgive Zoey, please, I know it was wrong and it wouldn't be a quick forgiveness, but I would like her to forgive her. I loved the new chapter, too bad it was short and great job btw, when do you think the next one will come out?
As far as Zoey goes, we’ll just have to wait and see.
We’re taking a couple of weeks off this month (we’ve been working pretty much non-stop since last summer). Additionally, chapter 6 has a couple of particularly difficult scenes to stage, so the tentative schedule has it releasing early July. We’ll obviously try to get it done sooner if possible, but as always it’s better to underpromise and overdeliver. 🙂
Well I hope they get along again. I hope you guys rest well^^ Were you working on chapter 6 while closing 5? I know it's asking a lot and I'll totally understand if it's impossible but can the next chapter be longer? And I understand, with the possibility of anything happening, it's really impossible to give a prediction, good rest for you and the team, I can't wait to see the next chapters ^^
For chapter 6, we’ve put scene 1 in the can and started on scene 2 (of 10). As far as the length of the chapters go, there’s a definitive calculus to creating AVNs. tl;dr: Quality, Time, and Cost. Like the classic Iron Triangle, you can have two, but not all three.
Confusion is more a short story than a novel. It was written in 2021 during the pandemic. It’s complete. All we’re doing is staging and rendering the images needed for each scene for each chapter.
So, for this reason the rest of the chapters will be approximately the same length except for the final chapter which will be about twice as long. If I could afford to hire three more 3D artists, we might get things done more quickly, but the story length would still be set.
